The world as it is, is just a conglomerate of patterns, these conglomerates are also patterned/patterns in turn; we experience and know just a slice of it, like the visible spectrum, and that we call reality. The subatomic world has patterns which are repeated at the stellar/cosmic level- one slice; how many such are there? so is the case with life, see evolution being replicated in the development of embryo to a child.
These 'patterns' come from internal constraints of the 'units' or unit patterns, if constraints were not there the world would be a homogenous soup. Constraints 'fit in' to give rise to patterns and the most stable pattern is as if 'selected' (no reference to 'deus ex machina' or god here), and are replicated...... like the DNA...

i fully agree to what you say, science is still and will always be inadequate as a 'language' to mirror reality in its entirety, we can only have reductionistic approximations.... see my post on math,music.... for a further development of my theory of patterns
Have you thought of applying these fractals to human mind, say our habits?
Habits could be thought as a small pattern of doing things and then repeating them over and over.
Your concepts could have important applications in the field of Self Help.
